Cinematography: final blog task

1) 13 Reasons Why (2017). Directed by Brian Yorkey
The director has chosen to use a lot of dolly shots in this scene. Dolly shot is when the camera would move with the character. An example of this would be when the camera moves with the protagonist when they enter the high school. There has been a use of tracking shot which gives the audience the effect that we are there with the characters. The director has chosen to use a lot of medium close up towards the end which connotes the frustration and anger he has by the use of his hand when he moves someone out of the way.
2) Moulin Rouge (2001) Directed by Baz Luhrmann
The different shots used to introduce the story is a very clever idea that the director has done. The close up of the protagonist shows the character's emotion that he is going through by the facial expression that he has. There is a lot of use of contrapuntal sound as some of the sound that was used by the director does not much on to what is going on in the scene.

3) Citizen Kane (1940). Directed by Orson Welles
There is a various number of different shots used in the scene such as long shot, close up and medium shot. The long shot show the setting of where the scene is set and it is in black and white. Which gives the connotation to me that it might be a horror film as black colour usually connotes danger.

4) Season 1, Episode 1 of Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip (2006). Directed by Aaron Sorkin
The director has used a lot of camera movement to communicate the excitement and drama of live television by the use of tracking shot and people moving around everyone busy in what they are doing. Long shot show the setting of where the scene which is clearly a studio of some sort. The setting the director is trying to show is in the white house. the medium shot used show the diegetic sound that the character is speaking.

5) Three Colours: Blue (1993). Directed by Krzystof Kieslowski
The use of close up used by the director shows lets the audience understand the narrative. The close up shows the emotion of the character that he is going. The girl's facial expression connotes she is thinking very deep about something as she is just looking at the camera not moving.
