I will be analysing the heat (1995). The scene starts of with a medium shot with the camera focused on one guy. It then progresses onto becoming tracking shot whiles the character is walking; this gives audience the impression that he is a main character. This shows that he is the main protagonist in the scene. He is also wearing a very smart suit. Which connotes to the audience that he is a very hardworking man. Suit also suggests the idea of professionalism. The protagonist is professional. The shot then goes to a close up of the shoes. Where there is a use of tracking shot. The sound is of footsteps what this does is builds up the suspense in the scene.
The shot then cuts to a close up of the protagonist’s head and he is looking around with his eyes showing to the audience that he is aware of his surroundings. His facial expression shows that he is going to do something.
The masks that the characters are wearing clearly show that they are some kind of buglers. They are the villains in the narrative. They also are seen holding a gun this would account as a prop that they have used. A gun usually has bad connotation to the prop. The character holding the gun suggests and represents that he is a bad character in this film.
The long shot used at 3:12 minutes shows the atmosphere around the scene. There are people crouching and bent. The only person standing up is the bugler this suggests the power he has and how he is the dominating the scene. The medium long shot used at 3:54 minutes shows that the character has done his job after getting his backpack and rushing out of the bank. His body language in this scene suggest a lot about the way he is very confident that he is going to succeed in robbing the bank.
Around 3:57 the character starts to take off his mask ad he gets ready to go out of the bank. The medium shot puts all of the audience attention on his face. The focus is on his face and we are forced to look at the face of the character’s. The camera then moves to the right and we are supposed to look at his back. After that shot there is a shot where there is a medium shot in the car. We hear the dialogues of the characters. This helps us to know what all of the three characters are doing. We are supposed to look at the character speaking but instead we have an option of putting our focus on the other characters as well.
At 4:15 minutes it is a it is a dolly shot. The director then chooses to do an over the head shot with a very fast beat music. This builds up the tension in the audience head. We get more tense. The sound is also a non- diegetic sound. This sound was used very well by the director and the editor. There is also a point of view shot of what the character is looking at. This gives us an idea of maybe how confident and fast he is moving around.
At 6:14 there is a match on action shot when the guy is shot. Then the shot changes to a long shot. This creates the match on action shot. This also allows us to see the person come and bent and look at his mate that got shot. The police officers are in a very professional costume. This connotes that they are on duty. They are doing their job.
At 6:38 there is a use of dolly shot when the camera is at a medium shot and the camera runs and speeds up with the character. This gives the audience the feeling that they are there with the character at that time. The audio at this time is basically a lot of loud shooting that is happening on the scene. There is a lot of side medium shots we can see the gun pointed towards the right and what we can see is the side of the characters faces. There is a lot of shooting happening then at 10:40 there is none and you can hear the diegetic sound of people screaming around them. At 12 minutes all of the gun shooting has been finished and there is no more shooting apart from the sound of the ambulance at this time.
